Advance Practice using Somatic / Body Process working, with live supervision - a 3-day workshop for experienced and qualified Psychotherapists
Over these three days, Carmen Joanne Ablack will facilitate the group in learning advanced ways of being with and supporting clients through Somatic/Body Process working. We will be exploring how processes of down-regulating (physiology, emotions, psychological processes) can impede a client and when they can support a client.
This requires developing an advanced understanding by the therapist of their own patterns of avoidance of difficult processes and emotions.
We will be exploring, in depth, how to access and be with unconscious content as well as out of awareness content. Developing our ability to support capacity for ups & downs in life, and through this, to increase resilience as needed for the specific client contexts and situations.
This is an approach that encourages understanding of the "whole bodymind" as container and containing - fostering increased capacity to identify, explore, and over time to be a source of 'healing' for the client and often for the therapist also.
It requires genuine willingness on the part of the therapist to be appropriately available in their vulnerability. Iit is a relational approach at its heart of embodied working. The development of capacity, appropriate vulnerability and resilience is understood as equally a process for the therapist on the training, as it is a focus for how we may support our clients.
In both these workshops, we will pay attention to:
- respect for the dignity, autonomy and right to self-determination of clients
- promotion of the wellbeing of clients and acting in their best interests
- avoidance by the therapist of exploitation and abuse, and striving to do no harm
- commitment by the therapist to transparency, fairness and relational field understanding in all interactions
