Sexuality in the Therapy Room: The Topic of Infidelity—A Workshop with Mariano Pizzimenti

  • Centrum Odkrycie 10 Józefa Ignacego KraszewskiegoKraków, Województwo małopolskie, 30-110Poland (map)

Is it more than just cheating? Infidelity, monogamy, and new forms of relationships—join us for a workshop on sexuality in the context of infidelity

Infidelity remains one of the most common causes of suffering and crises in intimate relationships, yet its significance today seems far more complex than in the past. In a cultural context where traditional monogamy coexists with open relationships, polyamory, and new forms of intimacy, it is becoming increasingly difficult to define what constitutes infidelity and where the boundaries of fidelity lie.

This workshop offers a clinical and phenomenological analysis of the psychological and relational meanings of infidelity, going beyond purely moralistic or pathologizing interpretations. What lies behind the act of infidelity? An individual or relational crisis? Unmet developmental needs? Specific attachment styles? Narcissistic or borderline dynamics? Or perhaps an often unconscious attempt to confront deeper existential fears?

Drawing on the Gestalt perspective, the workshop will focus on analyzing various forms of infidelity—sexual, emotional, virtual, and symbolic—and their significance in the context of relationships. We will also address the challenges arising from contemporary changes in intimate relationships and explore a question that is increasingly common in clinical practice: Is monogamy still the most appropriate relationship model for everyone, or are we witnessing the emergence of new forms of commitment and fidelity?

The seminar will provide theoretical and clinical tools useful for working with heterosexual, homosexual, and non-binary couples, as well as with individuals and partners exploring non-traditional relationship structures. The goal is to deepen and broaden our understanding of the phenomena of infidelity, trust, commitment, and relationship ethics in contemporary intimate life.
